Packing Light for an 8-Night Cruise to the Caribbean

I made this totally awesome stop motion video for you guys that outlines what we took on our recent trip to the Caribbean! This video took about 4 hours to shoo, and 8 hours to edit, but I am so proud of it that I think it was totally worth it!

I’d done stop motion work in Middle and High School (filming and processing was a hobby of mine in school), but it wasn’t ever a project of this scale. I did small films, maybe a minute long, for the most part. I did one SUPER bad film using Lord of the Rings action figures (kind of like those really bad Disney Princess Snap Chats you see) that was set to Ozzy’s “Crazy Train” for a school project. Still, nothing I’ve ever done comes close to this! I also definitely don’t have any footage from those projects, so don’t even ask!

If you’re interested in watching our video you can watch it embedded below, or open up YouTube by clicking here.

The Details on What We Took

Here is the list of what we packed into our medium-size rolling duffel bag. We typically travel in our backpacks, but use our duffel for larger trips. Maybe someday we’ll ONLY travel in backpacks…who knows!

Trevor and I travel pretty frequently, which means we’re pretty good at estimating how much we’ll need of something. We had enough clothing and underwear, all that stuff was fine.

We ran out of contact solution because I severely underestimated how much we go though. We bought another bottle in Key West.

I thought we’d run out of shampoo and conditioner so we bought some in Key West, but we didn’t need to. I get to return the new bottles! Hooray!

For a few items I found we had too much, or we didn’t use them at all:

  • dry shampoo – Did not use and will return.
  • Lint roller – Did not use, but will keep.
  • Face masks – Did not use all of them, but will keep.
  • Straightener – Did not use, will keep.
  • Our dress clothes – we ate at the casual restaurant/room service on-board for every meal, simply because they had a larger variety there. We didn’t see much of anything we were interested in eating at the Main Dining Room.

I hope you guys find this helpful when it comes to planning your next vacation. You don’t need to take as much with you as you think and even then you may overpack.
