Troubleshooting: Phillips SoundBar (HTL2101A/F7)

Have you purchased the Phillips SoundBar (HTL2101A/F7) and it’s not living up to expectations? Fear not, there is still hope! This guide will walk you through all the troubleshooting steps you need to get it working correctly or determine if it’s defective and needs replaced.   


Unit does not power on

  • Check the receptacle the unit is plugged into is receiving power by plugging in another device and ensuring it powers on
  • Ensure that the power cord is firmly inserted into the back of the device
  • Check the remote for problems (see below)

Remote does not work

  • Ensure the batteries in the device are new or fully charged
  • Open the battery cover and check that the batteries are properly inserted and not installed backwards(positive to positive/negative to negative not negative to positive)

No sound when powered on

  • Check that the audio cables are fully inserted and connected to the audio source and SoundBar
  • Ensure the proper input device is selected as shown by the status light on the top of the unit
  • Try selecting a different input and then selecting the proper connection again
  • Adjust the volume of the audio input source and the SoundBar
  • Check the audio input source with another device to ensure it is outputting sound
  • Test the audio cable with another device making sure it properly carries a signal
  • For USB connections ensure that the flash drive is properly formatted using the FAT file system
  • If using a flash drive, ensure the audio files are supported types: MP3 or WMA

Distorted sound

  • Check that all audio cables are completely inserted into the device
  • Ensure a stereo 3.5mm cable is used if using auxiliary input
  • Set the audio input source to stereo as surround sound will prevent proper audio processing
  • Disable virtual surround sound (I find this usually only adds echo anyway)
  • Test the audio input device(TV/DVD player/etc) with another speaker system to ensure proper audio is being sent over the connection
  • Test the audio cable used to ensure the signal is being carried properly
  • If using MP3 or WMA files on a USB drive, test listening to the files on another device to ensure they are not corrupt

Low sound when at high or maximum volume

  • Ensure cables are properly connected and working
  • Test audio output from the input source
  • Ensure volume is properly adjusted on any devices between the source and the SoundBar

Other tips

  • If an input method does not work consistently, try another cable or flash drive
  • If changing input methods for a single input type does not work the port may be defective.  Contact the manufacture for additional help

If you have exhausted the list of troubleshooting options above you may have a defective unit that needs repaired or replaced. Please contact the manufacture for additional help or to have service done to it under warranty.  Alternatively, depending on where you purchased it you may be able to exchange it for another unit.
